by Dr. Paul Craig Roberts

I have come to the conclusion that Big Brother’s subjects in George Orwell’s 1984 are better informed than Americans.

Americans have no idea why they have been at war in the Middle East, Asia and Africa for a decade. They don’t realize that their liberties have been supplanted by a Gestapo Police State. Few understand that hard economic times are here to stay.

The New Libya: Assassination, Ruination, Broken Promises and Body Snatching…

Thursday 27 October 2011 @ 1:52 am

by Felicity Arbuthnot

“As usual, we swim in a pile of dishonorable politicians. An Arab poem describes how the rotten rubbish floats to the top of the water while all the gems – corals and precious fish – stay at the bottom.” (An Arab friend.)

If events of the past few days are anything to go by, the UN-NATO insurgent allies are set to bring a grim, lawless, murderous and fundamentalist future to the “New Libya.”

Polygamy is set to return as the disenfranchisement of women, the West’s new friend and interim leader, Mr Jalil has declared. (He didn’t put it quite like that, but the particular interpretation of Sharia Law he espouses, does.)

The official account of the events of September 11, 2001, has been used:

to justify the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; which have resulted in the deaths of millions of people;
to authorize torture, military tribunals, and extraordinary rendition; and
to suspend freedoms guaranteed by the American Constitution such as habeas corpus in the USA, and similar freedoms in Canada, the UK, and other countries.

Do we Defend Human Rights or Do We Defend Ourselves from Them?

Monday 24 October 2011 @ 1:51 pm

by P. T. Delgado Palacios

Translated and edited by Dr. Claudio Schuftan The original is in Spanish. I have to confess though that, although in a small part fallacious, it raises some uncomfortable and disturbing questions for which I only may have some answers. At the risk of being accused of courting controversy I share this with you. (Claudio Schuftan)

1. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 assumes humankind agrees with the institutions of a bourgeois society. According to the Declaration we are entitled to protection under the law (Art.7). Of what law? Laws made by whom? Aren’t the owners of power and of money the ones who make the laws according to what is convenient for them? So, do those who question the law attempt against human rights (HR)?

ASSASSINS R US. Libya: The UN and NATO Enjoin “Multi-State Terrorism”

Sunday 23 October 2011 @ 4:51 am

by Felicity Arbuthnot

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians: 6:12.)

What a decade it has been for assassinations, liquidations, exterminations – for State terrorism led by the Land of the Free. Summary executions include Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. On 5th February 2003, General Colin Powell stating that he headed a deadly terrorist network within Iraq – just six weeks before the US headed a deadly terrorist network, in an illegal invasion, which entirely destroyed Iraq.

What Quantitative Easing Really Means

Sunday 23 October 2011 @ 4:49 am

by Prof. Ismael Hossein-zadeh

Stripped from the fancy (and mystifying) jargon, quantitative easing (QE) simply means increasing the quantity of money supply, or easing credit conditions—in the hope of stimulating thestagnant economy. This is usually done byhaving central banks inject a pre-determined quantity of money into the coffers of commercial banksin return for the purchase of their financial assets, which consist largely of government bonds. Although it is typically done electronically, or on paper, its practical effect is the same as printing money.

Moving from a War Economy to a Peace Economy

Sunday 23 October 2011 @ 4:48 am

by Mary Beth Sullivan

It is my intention to stimulate some conversation about economic conversion – that is, planning, designing and implementing a transformation from a war economy to a peace economy. Historically, this is an effort that would include a changeover from military to civilian work in industrial facilities, in laboratories, and at US military bases.

To that end, I intend to bring to you all what I’ve learned from reading Seymour Melman, the most prolific writer on the topic.

The Stock Market Will Fall: The World is Drowning in Debt, much of which is Unpayable

Wednesday 19 October 2011 @ 3:31 pm

by Bob Chapman

It could then be that this is the top of the stock market, which is fundamentally very overpriced. The latest rallies are the result of statements by French President Sarkozy and German chancellor Mrs. Merkel that a financial solution is at hand for Europe. This announcement named the end of the month as the date for release of this information.

The Alleged Iran Saudi Envoy Assassination Plot: Mossad at Work

Wednesday 19 October 2011 @ 3:27 pm

by Ismail Salami

Despite its evidently make-believe facade, the cooked-up story of the Saudi envoy assassination plot does not seem to be something which can be easily banished from the minds of the American powers that be.

The heat over Iran in the US government is growing rapidly. Some Republican congressmen have expressed their interest in waging an all-out war against Iran, a threat they keep refreshing every time they have an excuse. They have clearly stated that Washington should not dismiss the idea of resorting to military force against Iran, an idea which is being strengthened in Congress.
